How to Rent a Car in Georgia: a Step-by-Step Guide
Planning to rent a car in Tbilisi or anywhere in Georgia? Here is everything you need to know — documents, booking, prices, insurance and a few tips for Georgian roads — so your trip is safe, comfortable and hassle-free.

What you need to rent a car
- Passport or national ID
- A valid passport, or a national ID card for citizens of countries where it is accepted.
- Driving licence
- A driving licence held for at least 3 years. A licence from your home country is usually enough; if it is not in Latin script, we recommend also bringing an international driving permit.
- Minimum age
- The driver must be at least 21 years old.
- Renting with a driver?
- Then no licence is needed — you only tell us the time, the place and the route.
How booking works
- 1. Choose a car and dates
- Pick a car on our site, choose your dates and where you want to pick it up, and send the booking request — or simply message us on WhatsApp at +995 514 460 460.
- 2. Verification and confirmation
- Send photos of your passport and driving licence. We check them and confirm the booking, usually within 15 minutes.
- 3. Contract
- The rental contract is signed on the spot or sent to you as an e-contract — it takes about 10 minutes.
- 4. Pick-up
- Collect the car for free at our office in Bagebi, or we deliver it to Tbilisi International Airport ($12), your hotel or apartment.
Prices, deposit and payment
Daily prices start from $23, depending on the car and the season — every car page shows the current price. Longer rentals cost less: from 7 days the discount grows and the service and cleaning fee ($9.6) is waived from 7 days.
For self-drive rentals a refundable deposit is taken ($38–$96, depending on the car). It is returned when you bring the car back on time, with a full tank and without fines or damage. You can pay in cash or by bank transfer; the price you see is the price you pay, with no hidden fees.
Insurance
All our vehicles are insured, including third-party liability with a coverage limit of up to $10,000. Insurance does not cover cases such as driving under the influence of alcohol, letting someone who is not listed in the contract drive, or off-road driving — the full rules are in our terms and conditions.
Tips for driving in Georgia
- Traffic and roads
- Georgia drives on the right. Main highways are in good condition; mountain roads are narrow and winding, so allow more time than the map suggests.
- Mountain trips in winter
- The Georgian Military Road to Gudauri and Kazbegi can close for a while after heavy snowfall. Check the weather before you leave and choose a four-wheel-drive SUV for winter trips.
- Parking in Tbilisi
- Many central streets have paid parking zones; a compact car makes parking in the Old Town much easier.
- Fuel
- Petrol stations are easy to find on all main roads; fill up before heading into remote mountain areas.
